Submitted by Robin on 30. September 2016 - 21:45Every year, Chris Simpson offers his comments on the runners and riders for the Velka Pardubicka, on http://www.freewebs.com/becher123. As usual, his comments are shrewd and well informed. However, Barbora Málkova was not jocked off Charme Look by Jan Faltejsek. She suffered a broken vertebra in the August meeting at Pardubice, but appears to be OK after an operation.
It is difficult to disagree with Chris’s view that this year’s field for the race looks a bit below standard.

Submitted by Robin on 29. September 2016 - 15:20Josef Váňa is said to have decided that Rabbit Hawk Wing is not ready for the Velka Pardubicka, and so the living legend will presumably not have a ride in the 2016 Velka Pardubicka.

Váňa-trained Mazhilis wins the Gran Premio

Trainer Josef Váňa won the biggest Italian steeplechase for the third time, but this time not with Alpha Two, winner of the race in 2013 and 2014. This time the winner was Mazhilis, having his first run in the Gran Premio.
Niklas Lovén – available to ride at Pardubice

September 2016 - 12:28Swedish jumps jockey Niklas Lovén, winner of more than 150 races over fences and qualified to ride in the Velka Pardubicka, will be available at Pardubice on October 8th and 9th, with the exception of the Crystal Cup on the Saturday and the Labe Stakes on the Sunday. Minimum weight 66 kg.
Váňa snr and jnr: Our 4 horses have a tough assignment at Merano

However, Alpha Two, Fafintadenient, Mazhilis and Alcydon Fan will not be among the most fancied horses for Italy’s top steeplechase. Both Josef Váňa snr, who has been preparing the horses for the race, and his son, Josef Váňa jnr, who will also be riding Alpha Two in the race, are aware of this.
