All set for an outstanding EJC meeting on Saturday

The 2nd European Jockeys’ Cup meeting at Prague Velká Chuchle racecourse on Saturday, September 24th is set to be the best day of flat racing in the Czech Republic since the 1930s. Great efforts have been made to find almost CK 4 million Czech crowns (EUR 140 000) in prizemoney for the races, including CzK 1 600 000 for the feature event. There will also be prizemoney for the first three jockeys in the championship. The main sponsors are Loko Trans, Loko Trans Slovakia, LERAM and Elkov Electro. However, many other sponsors have contributed, and an enormous amount of mainly voluntary work has gone into the preparations. Our owners and trainers have responded by providing strong and large fields for (almost) all the races. Leading jockeys from all over Europe have promised to come to Prague. Even the weather forecast is good.

Last year’s first EJC race meeting was a memorable day, and we hope that most of the problems from last year have been ironed out. This year, the international jockeys will ride in all nine races on the card. In the four main races, the owners and trainers were allowed to select their own jockey. The connections of the highest rated horses had the first choice. A day later, at the Park Inn Hotel in Prague, jockeys were drawn for the horses in the five minor races. This was done in a clever way, to ensure that each jockey in the competition will get at least 6 rides in the afternoon, taking into account the lowest comfortable riding weight of each jockey. Six points will be awarded to the winning jockey, four points for 2nd place, three points for 3rd place, two points for 4th place and one point for 5th place. In the event of a tie, the jockey’s placing for the main race, the EJC LERAM Million, over 1 400 metres, will be decisive. If jockeys have more than six rides, only their six best finishes will be taken into account.

The first race on Saturday is at 12 midday.
