Who is Freddie Mitchell?

The rumour that he was an Australian amateur ridden seems to be untrue. He is in fact a young British amateur rider who has not fulfilled the qualification conditions to ride in the race, but for some reason he has been granted a special dispensation.

Ronino, Valldemoso and Bremen Plan were known not to be in prime shape, and their absence from the field is no surprise.
