Why has noone heard of Freddie Mitchell, who is to ride Cantridara in the Velka Pardubicka on Sunday?
The rumour that he was an Australian amateur ridden seems to be untrue. He is in fact a young British amateur rider who has not fulfilled the qualification conditions to ride in the race, but for some reason he has been granted a special dispensation.

Here are the odds for the 123rd running of the Velka Pardubicka, as of October 6th. Orphee des Blins is the favourite, followed by Trezor and Tiumen. The six foreign-trained horses are available at prices of 12:1 and upwards.
If you are not used to the way we present the odds, please note that the prices given here are what you will receive including your stake, if you win. Orphee des Blins is at 2.5:1, which is equivalent to 6 /4. Klaus is at 12:1, which is equivalent to 11/1. The letters in brackets after the horse's name indicate the country in which it was bred.
Twenty-one horses have been declared for the Velka Pardubicka, to be run on October 13th. The Czech runners are more or less as expected. Ronino, Valldemoso and Bremen Plan were known not to be in prime shape, and their absence from the field is no surprise.
